1 Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion,

2 O you who hear prayer,

3 When iniquities prevail against me,

4 Blessed is the one you choose and bring near,

5 By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness,

O God of our salvation,

the hope of all the ends of the earth

and of the farthest seas;

6 the one who by his strength established the mountains,

7 who stills the roaring of the seas,

the roaring of their waves,

the tumult of the peoples,

8 so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at your signs.

You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.

9 You visit the earth and water it;

you greatly enrich it;

the river of God is full of water;

you provide their grain,

for so you have prepared it.

10 You water its furrows abundantly,

settling its ridges,

softening it with showers,

and blessing its growth.

11 You crown the year with your bounty;

your wagon tracks overflow with abundance.

12 The pastures of the wilderness overflow,

the hills gird themselves with joy,

13 the meadows clothe themselves with flocks,

the valleys deck themselves with grain,

they shout and sing together for joy.

This psalm is really beautiful in describing the greatness to God and our worship/praise to God for all that He is. Praise is given to God (v1) because it belongs to Him, it is due to Him, it is His right as God and king over all. The reason that we praise God continuously and He deserves our praise is in the following verses. 

It is God who hears our prayer, He forgives and atones for our sins, He chose us (also repeated in Ephesians 1), He is the one who is our salvation, He controls the seas, established the mountains, He waters the plants, ensures that all creation has water to drink, and brought us near his presence, so we may dwell in fellowship with Him (v4). The apostle John actually says this in Revelation 21:13: “And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them.” We as believers will be with the Lord forever and in His holy temple. Before it was the priests and those that were found worthy to ministry to God in the tabernacle. But now, it will be all of eternity where we dwell in the very near presence of God. David prophesies of the future for salvation from God and the coming of His kingdom. 

This the reason for the praise that we have and how praise is due to His Name. We worship God for who He is and all that He is. Creation also worships God because that is the natural response for the creation to worship and praise and sing aloud for joy to the Creator. Non-human objects like hills, meadows, and valleys are given human traits because they sing and shout aloud in joy in praise to God. The reason David uses this technique is to demonstrate how all of creation should be in worship and exultation of the Lord Most High. 

The animated objects praise God because He created them and they exist because He wills it. How much more should we be in praise to the Lord: the reason for our existence, we are chosen, redeemed, forgiven, justified, given the Holy Spirit to will us to be more like Christ, being sanctified, and one day will forever dwell in the presence of God for all of eternity.
