Psalm 93

Racheal Arteaga

March 2, 2016

The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty;

    the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength;

    indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.

Your throne was established long ago; You are from all eternity.

The seas have lifted up, Lord, the seas have lifted up their voice;

    the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.

Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,

 mightier than the breakers of the sea—the Lord on high is mighty.

Your statutes, Lord, stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days.

I am trying to imagine what David pictured when he wrote this brief note. David was familiar, thanks to his service in King Saul’s court, with the way royalty dressed, from their robes and armor to the trumpets or other instruments that announced their presence.

God’s power isn’t marked with flowing robes and trumpeters. His power and majesty are visible in the incredible length of time He has been present with His people, in the way the oceans continue to crash and roar, in the way His laws have stood the test of time. Other kings’ powerful acts might be recorded in history books or in the memories of those who saw them once or twice, but our God is evident to all, sovereign in all He does.

Lord, there is no king, no power, no ruler greater than You. Thank You for still being tender enough to love us, even as You are powerful beyond words. It is an honor to serve a King like You.
