My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.

He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

How long will you assault a man? Would all of you throw him down--this leaning wall, this tottering fence?

They fully intend to topple him from his lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse.

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.

He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. 

My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. 

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. 

Lowborn men are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie; if weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath.

Do not trust in exhortation or take pride in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving. 

Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done. 

This psalm is a favorite of mine because it tells us that our hope comes from God. In verse five it says, “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him,” which reminds us in whom we need to put our hope and trust in. Furthermore, my bible focuses in more depth on what this hope in God involves, and so I would like to share it with you. 

There are seven important components of this hope in God: (1) we have our hope in God’s grace; (2) we have hope that the time will come when our sufferings on earth will finally be over; (3) we have hope that God will bring our spiritual growth and salvation to completion; (4) we have the hope of an eternal home in the new heaven; (5) we have hope that Jesus will return and his faithful followers will be caught up from the earth to meet him in the air; (6) we have the hope of receiving a reward for faithful service to God in this life; (7) finally, we have the hope of eternal life. When I pondered this for a while, I realized we truly do have an abundance of reasons to put our hope in God! 

Since we have these great promises in store for those whose hope is in God and Christ Jesus, we also are called to share this same hope with others. Today, I want to encourage you to be prepared to share your hope that you have in Christ Jesus. In 1 Peter 3:15, it states that as Christians we should “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that you have.”

Father, let us declare to the world that our hope is in you even if it is an unpopular view. You have given us eternal life, and nothing this world could offer could ever compare to that. Remind us to always be prepared to answer the people who ask for the reason for the hope we have in You, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
