1 Praise the Lord!

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,

    in the company of the upright, in the congregation.

2 Great are the works of the Lord,

    studied by all who delight in them.

3 Full of splendor and majesty is his work,

    and his righteousness endures forever.

4 He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered;

    the Lord is gracious and merciful.

5 He provides food for those who fear him;

    he remembers his covenant forever.

6 He has shown his people the power of his works,

    in giving them the inheritance of the nations.

7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;

    all his precepts are trustworthy;

8 they are established forever and ever,

    to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.

9 He sent redemption to his people;

    he has commanded his covenant forever.

    Holy and awesome is his name!

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;

    all those who practice it have a good understanding.

    His praise endures forever!

This is a psalm about the Lord, his works and what he does for his people. The mighty deeds of God are described and explained. And in response, the response of God’s people are also described.

The verse and the last verse describes the attitude and the worship of God’s people. God’s people should praise him and that should be continuos and eternal praise due to all that God does and based out of the overflow of God’s mercy and kindness. It is the praise based on the gratefulness of God. And God’s people should also fear Him which is the beginning of wisdom. Only fools refuse to praise their Maker and Creator and the sustainer of their lives.

God’s works are described as great! The works of God are great and majestic. His righteousness endures forever. The graciousness and mercy of God are enduring and lasting forever. The Lord is our provider — providing the basic necessities and the minor details for those who are in need and need His provisions. God is the one who remembers His covenant which is really reassuring, that the promise and covenant that God makes with His people is binding and that God is not one who forgets His promises. His people are given an inheritance, will rule and are given a plan and purpose in their lives. We are the redeemed of the Lord whether the immediate context is of Israel, bought and rescued from the hand of slavery which is the foreshadowing of all believers, being ransomed by the blood of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins. 

God is really gracious and His works demonstrate His grace and mercy, and so the only action believers can take is to praise His holy name forever and ever.
