In the Lord I take refuge.

    How then can you say to me:

    “Flee like a bird to your mountain.

For look, the wicked bend their bows;

    they set their arrows against the strings

to shoot from the shadows

    at the upright in heart.

When the foundations are being destroyed,

    what can the righteous do?”

 The Lord is in His holy temple;

    the Lord is on His heavenly throne.

He observes everyone on earth;

    His eyes examine them.

 The Lord examines the righteous,

    but the wicked, those who love violence,

    He hates with a passion.

 On the wicked He will rain

    fiery coals and burning sulfur;

    a scorching wind will be their lot.

 For the Lord is righteous,

    He loves justice;

    the upright will see his face.

When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do? There’s a news headline and subsequent hashtag circling the internet right now claiming “God isn’t fixing this”, splayed against photos of recent tragedies. God may not be responding the moment we’d like, but that certainly doesn’t mean His heart has hardened or He’s changed His mind about justice. Perhaps it’s because of His great mercy that He doesn’t respond immediately. None of us could stand that kind of unrestrained justice. 

Glenn Burris recently wrote about this article, “While I would agree that prayer isn’t the only thing we should do, I firmly believe it’s the first thing we should do. Prayer is not a meaningless activity. It invokes the entry of an all-powerful God who has the ability to dethrone kings and dismantle armies. I choose to put my trust in the One who spoke the world into existence. I choose to call upon the One who overcame death, hell, and the grave. I choose to believe in the One who is the Author of life.”

People may mock our reliance on God, but we have the promise that He has not been dethroned. He still sits in complete divinity yet perfect understanding of the human race, continually counting the attacks against His creation. He is fixing this, but perhaps not on the timetable we’d like. Yet He promises that the upright will see His face, and I know that on that day, as we run towards Him, we will know that He has made all things right. 

The Lord is righteous, and He IS fixing this.
