Psalm 101

Mary Schmidtke

March 10, 2016

1 I will sing of steadfast love and justice;
    to you, O Lord, I will make music.

2 I will ponder the way that is blameless.
    Oh when will you come to me?
I will walk with integrity of heart
    within my house;

3 I will not set before my eyes
    anything that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who fall away;
    it shall not cling to me.

4 A perverse heart shall be far from me;
    I will know nothing of evil.

5 Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly
    I will destroy.
Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart
    I will not endure.

6 I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
he who walks in the way that is blameless
    shall minister to me.

7 No one who practices deceit
    shall dwell in my house;
no one who utters lies
    shall continue before my eyes.

8 Morning by morning I will destroy
    all the wicked in the land,
cutting off all the evildoers
    from the city of the Lord.

Oh that I would really do what the first few verses of this Psalm say. That I would sing of your love and justice, praising you o Lord, every moment of every day. That I would be truly careful to lead a blameless life and walk with a blameless heart. That I would be pure in my thoughts and actions.

Yet, I think of Romans 7:15 “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do”. I say I want to walk in God’s righteousness, but yet do little to really pursue such a walk. When I think of it, I try… a little.

This Psalm makes my heart cry in sadness, not even guessing how much I regularly break God’s heart with my foolish ways. I would be lost to God because of my sin, but for the white wash of my sin through Jesus’s death. For God has made a way for me, for us, to reach him – through Jesus.

Praise God that we have hope in Christ Jesus! We can put on the Ephesians 6:10 “Armor of God” – Christlikeness. We can chose to give ourselves to Him and He will make straight our path. Oh that we will cling to you, Lord.

Dear Lord Jesus, help us to be zealous and diligent to reform our hearts and ways. Now. Help us not to waiver and wait. We cry out to you Lord. Help us to walk with our eyes set on you, that we may be faithful in your sight. Thank you Lord Jesus. Amen.
